EARLY PAYMENT FOR SUBCONTRACTORS

Standardise Early
Payment Requests
Across Your Projects

Give subcontractors the option to request Early Payment on  progress claims, while giving main contractors visibility, governance and control — all within the Payapps progress claim workflow.

What is Early Payment in construction?

The Early Payment feature in Payapps gives eligible subcontractors the option to request payment on an approved progress claim before the normal contractual payment date. With Payapps, main contractors can define which projects and subcontractors are eligible, set available payment timeframes and discounts, and manage requests through their existing progress claim workflow. Early Payment remains optional and does not replace agreed contractual payment terms or applicable statutory payment timeframes.

How Early Payment Requests Work in Payapps

Payapps gives main contractors a structured way to manage Early Payment requests directly within the progress claim process. Requests are handled consistently, remain visible to the right teams and follow existing approval workflows.

Main contractors control eligibility, payment timeframes and discounts, while subcontractors decide whether to request Early Payment. The option remains voluntary and does not change the underlying contractual payment terms.

Six Ways Payapps Helps Standardise Early Payment Requests

Discover how Payapps enables main contractors to manage early payment requests with greater control, visibility and confidence — while supporting subcontractor cash flow and improving project outcomes.
1

Configurable Eligibility
& Control

Learn more >

Main contractors decide where and to whom Early Payment requests are available. Payapps allows you to control Early Payment eligibility at both a project and subcontractor level, ensuring requests are offered intentionally and consistently — not through informal or ad-hoc arrangements.

This ensures Early Payment aligns with internal commercial policies, project requirements, and risk profiles, while remaining optional for subcontractors.

2

Clear Early Payment
Options Defined
Upfront

For each eligible project, main contractors define:

  • available early payment timeframes
  • corresponding discount percentages

These options are presented clearly to subcontractors at the appropriate point in the request workflow, providing clarity for both parties and eliminating the need for negotiation.

3

Embedded Early
Payment Requests in
Progress Claims

Early Payment requests are made directly within the Payapps progress claim workflow.

When a subcontractor submits a claim with an Early Payment request:

  • the request is captured digitally
  • it's automatically linked to the progress claim
  • no emails, forms or side conversations are required

This keeps everything structured, auditable and in one place.

4

Controlled Approval
Workflows

Early Payment requests follow the same approval pathways already used for progress claims. Main contractors can configure:

  • who reviews requests
  • how approvals are routed
  • when finance teams are engaged

This ensures Early Payment requests are governed, consistent and aligned with existing internal controls.

5

Project and Finance
Teams

Early Payment vs advance payment: what’s the difference?

Although the terms sound similar, Early Payment and advance payment are different.

An advance payment in construction generally provides funds before the relevant work or service has been completed. Early Payment in Payapps applies after a progress claim has been submitted and approved, allowing an eligible subcontractor to request payment before the normal contractual payment date.

The distinction matters because Early Payment relates to approved work and remains an optional choice for the subcontractor.
